Everything Happening at Lumen Field This August

This August packs Lumen Field with two major stadium concerts, eight soccer matches, Football Fest, and the Seahawks’ only home preseason game. The calendar stretches from Ed Sheeran on August 1 to the Reign’s August 30 match, with the crowd type shifting week to week.

Ed Sheeran Opens the Month

The Ed Sheeran LOOP Tour hits Lumen Field on August 1, converting the full field into a concert configuration. Gates open at 4 p.m., and the show starts at 5:30 p.m., so activity around the stadium district is likely to build through the afternoon.

The LOOP name reflects the live looping technique that has become one of Sheeran’s signatures. During parts of the show, he layers guitar, percussion, and vocals in real time, turning one performer into something much larger. The tour has also included guest musicians and fan-requested songs, so the Seattle set may not follow a completely fixed pattern. Recent tour setlists have also mixed major hits such as “Shape of You,” “Perfect,” and “Bad Habits” with songs from his 2025 album Play.

Soccer Takes Over SoDo

The Sounders and Reign combine for eight matches from August 9 through August 30.

August 9 fits two matches into a single day. The Sounders host Querétaro at 12:30 p.m. Six hours later, the Reign face Angel City FC, a club co-founded by Hollywood investors. The two matches are likely to bring noticeably different audiences. Anyone who wants to catch both should check whether their chosen garage permits re-entry or requires a second payment.

Chivas Guadalajara comes to Lumen Field at 7:30 p.m. on August 12, a Leagues Cup fixture that puts MLS against Liga MX. Chivas is known for its longstanding policy of fielding Mexican players, a tradition that sets the club apart in Liga MX. The match is likely to attract supporters from well beyond the usual Sounders audience.

Vancouver Whitecaps come to Lumen Field on August 16 at 7 p.m. for the Cascadia Derby. The rivalry reaches back to the original Seattle and Vancouver NASL franchises, both established in 1973. Vancouver supporters have made the trip south for decades, giving the match a visible cross-border presence.

August 19 might be the most eclectic night of the month. Austin FC kicks off at 6:30 p.m. while Goose, known for marathon sets, plays the adjacent WAMU Theater at 6 p.m. The two audiences have almost nothing in common, and both will empty into the same streets and garages at roughly the same time.

Seahawks Preseason Football Returns

The Seattle Seahawks vs. Dallas Cowboys game on August 15 is the team’s only home preseason appearance. Known as “America’s Team,” the Cowboys bring one of the NFL’s largest road followings and a visitor section most preseason games never see.

The two clubs have a short but loaded history of memorable moments. When Tony Romo bobbled the snap on a chip-shot field goal in the 2007 Wild Card, Seattle won 21-20. And in 2002, Emmitt Smith broke the NFL all-time rushing record against the Seahawks in Texas, and Dallas still lost.

Even in preseason, a Seahawks-Cowboys game is likely to create one of the month’s larger sports crowds.

The Busiest Three Days of the Month

August 14 through 16 is the month’s most compressed window. Reign vs. Chicago Stars FC on Friday, Seahawks vs. Cowboys on Saturday, Sounders vs. Vancouver on Sunday. Three straight event days mean the neighborhood does not fully reset between them.

Chicago has competed in the NWSL since its inaugural 2013 season, reached two championship games, and never claimed the title. The club became Chicago Stars FC in 2024, a new name that came with the same unfinished history. August 14 puts that backstory on the same field as the Reign.

Karol G Closes the Concert Calendar

Karol G brings the Viajando Por El Mundo Tropitour to Lumen Field on August 26. The night marks the month’s second major stadium concert, with a very different atmosphere from Ed Sheeran’s opening.

Born Carolina Giraldo Navarro in Medellín, Colombia, she broke through on a wave of reggaeton and trap en Español collaborations. Her 2023 album Mañana Será Bonito was the first all-Spanish-language album by a female artist to top the Billboard 200. Songs such as “BICHOTA,” “Tusa,” and “PROVENZA” will likely draw the biggest reactions, though the Seattle setlist may shift from earlier tour dates.

What to Know About Lumen Field in August

Lumen Field releases large audiences onto the streets around Occidental Avenue, Stadium Station, Pioneer Square, and nearby garages. On sold-out nights, the surrounding blocks can take 45 to 60 minutes to clear after the final event.

Stadium Station and International District/Chinatown Station are the closest Link light rail options. Trains and platforms fill quickly in the first 15 to 20 minutes after large events. Some visitors wait briefly in the district to avoid the initial rush.

The clear-bag policy and cashless payment system apply to all events at Lumen Field. Visitors carrying non-compliant bags may need to return them to a vehicle or use an available storage option to gain entry. The full policy is on Lumen Field’s website, worth checking ahead of your visit.

Few months on the current calendar bring this many different audiences to the same venue. A concert night does not move like a Seahawks game, and a Leagues Cup match does not empty like a Saturday fixture. Checking the full calendar when deciding how to get there and when to leave may be the most useful preparation of all.
